My older children have worn glasses since they were 2 years of age due to a degenerative eye disease.  I can’t tell you how heartbreaking it is to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of glasses only to have them destroyed a few weeks later when your child is playing on the playground at school.

Over a decade ago, it was somewhat common to be able to purchase a warranty on children’s glasses. I assume that the eyeglass warranty people were losing lots of money on the deal, because eventually, it became impossible to purchase warranties on children’s eyeglasses.  I wish that I’d known about Zenni eyeglasses back then.

Zenni has eyeglasses starting at $8 per pair for children.  They even make eyeglasses for very young infants.  You can choose from metal, plastic, or titanium frames too.  The glasses also come in a wide variety of colors and styles so you can find a pair that best suits your child’s personality. A bonus is that anti-scratch resistant coating is free!  This really helps to keep the lenses free from scratches.  Since children aren’t always the best about taking care of their glasses, I’d recommend this strongly.

The downside is that Zenni is a mail order company and doesn’t offer eyeglass repair.  However, I can attest to the fact that usually children outgrow or destroy glasses beyond repair and therefore, repairing eyeglasses really isn’t an issue.  Another downside is that you can’t get a full refund if you decide you want to return your glasses.  For the first 30 days after ordering, you can get a 50% refund of your purchase price.  After 30 days, no refunds will be issued.

How do you order from Zenni? After you take your child to the eye doctor, you should get an eyeglass prescription. You can use this to order glasses from Zenni.  Although you may be slightly concerned about ordering eyeglasses via mail, it’s a deal that’s too good to pass up.  At these prices, you can afford to purchase several pairs of eyeglasses for your children.

It costs $4.95 to ship each order irregardless of the number of glasses in the order, and you can expect to receive your child’s glasses about 10-14 days after placing your order.  You may want to purchase a pair or two for yourself at these prices!
