Morning sickness, or tummy upset during pregnancy, usually occurs during the morning, and usually happens during the first trimester. I say usually, because I personally have had morning sickness at all hours of the day. I’ve also had morning sickness all throughout the pregnancy.
What helps “cure” morning sickness? It seems as if there is not one sure fire cure that helps all women. However, some things seem to help more than others.
Ginger Stops Nausea
Ginger can help with nausea and vomiting. If you can’t find hard ginger candy, you might try ginger tea. I’m not sure how much (if any) ginger is actually in ginger ale, but warm ginger ale also can help curb sickness.
Eating Can Help Stop Queasiness
When you have the flu and feel sick, the last thing you should do is eat. When you are pregnant and feel queasy, it might actually be a sign that you need to eat. Try eating some crackers to see if it helps.
Lay Down and Try To Relax
I’ve found that sometimes, if I can just lay down and relax, I can get the sickness to dissipate. Of course, this is often not possible.
Experiment to See What Works For You
I’ve met women who swear that their morning sickness went away when they ate potato chips, or cold cucumbers. None of these things worked for me, but I tried them just in case. I’ve heard of women who say that Emetrol, and over the counter medicine for nausea REALLY did the trick for them. It didn’t work for me. I heard from a friend that another friend told her that drinking the syrup from canned fruit helped her. It worked for me! Of course, don’t throw caution to the wind just because you are hoping to cure your morning sickness. For example, in the case of the Emetrol “cure”, I did ask my doctor before I tried it and got her approval.
Watch Those Vitamins
Pregnancy vitamins can actually make you nauseous. If you find that you feel sick after taking your vitamins, there are a few ways to approach the subject. There are so many different types of pre-natal vitamins available nowadays! You may find that another vitamin works better with your system. If you aren’t eager to try to find another vitamin you can live with, you may want to try taking your vitamin at night. I’ve found that most of the time, I can sleep through the nausea!
Of course, if your nausea and vomiting are severe, and you are unable to keep anything down, you should call your doctor immediately. Otherwise, try to find something that works for you, and realize that soon, your morning sickness will subside!
