Are you a college student who recently got engaged? If so, you’re probably thinking about planning that dream wedding. This can be pretty stressful if you’re still a student. Trying to find time to plan the details of a wedding, coordinate the schedules of everyone involved, and worrying about the money a wedding will cost is a lot to put on anyone’s plate. If you’re trying to do all this while studying for finals and completing class projects, it can be even more overwhelming.
What if you’re the student who’s about to graduate and is also looking for a job? Well, I know all about that because I was once in your shoes. My first husband and I planned our wedding, job searched, and interviewed out of state, all while finishing college and working. It can be done. Here are some ways to help you keep your sanity while planning a wedding and going to college at the same time.
Get Some Help
Hopefully, you’re in a position to ask family members for assistance both financially and in planning. It will surely take a burden off of you to be able to lean on your family for support. I was fortunate to have both families contribute financially to our wedding, though I was prepared to go pretty low-budget if we had to. I also had the help of my mom in planning and coordinating the event. It may be hard to give up some of the control, but I can tell you it’s worth it when you’re swamped with all of the other aspects of your life. You can also enlist the help of your bridesmaids in taking care of details like putting together favors, choosing decor, and, of course, picking out the dresses.
Make Some Compromises
Marriage is built on compromise, and you’ll have to take into consideration your fiance’s wants in this process. You’ll also need to compromise with yourself. Be realistic. Every little girl dreams about her wedding day, but this is real life. You can still have an amazing ceremony while sticking to your budget and working with your resources. As a busy college student, you can’t devote all of your waking moments to planning this wedding, so try not to get in over your head. Just enjoy the experience.
Focus On One Thing At a Time
Yes, you’ll want to consider the big picture here, but don’t let it all overwhelm you. Focus on what’s most important at the time or you’ll go nuts. Worry about the test you have in Anatomy this week. Once you get through that, you can pick up on the wedding planning again. No one can do it all.
