What To Expect When You Are Expecting: A Resource For Moms

Thanks! Share it with your friends!

what to expect  I would strongly encourage any pregnant woman to purchase this book!  In today’s society, people are more mobile than ever.  This means that you may be far away from friends and family during your pregnancy, when you need your support network more than ever.

This book gives a detailed view of pregnancy month by month.  It tells you how your body is adjusting to the pregnancy, and warns of discomforts that you may be experiencing.  It also shows you what your baby looks like during each stage of development.

As I tend to have difficult pregnancies, I appreciated the section on pregnancy complications.  Warning: if you are having an “easy” pregnancy, there is no need to read this section, which will likely cause you to become concerned.  For those of us with difficult pregnancies, or those who are experiencing complications, this section is very informative and helpful.

Of course, this book is not a substitute for pre-natal care.  It’s important to find an OB/GYN doctor during your pregnancy to care for you and your unborn child.  In addition, if this is your first pregnancy, you should enroll in childbirth classes which can help you understand the whole birthing process and make it a little bit less intimidating.

During my first pregnancy, I had numerous questions and concerns.  I felt bad bothering the doctor over every little “issue ” I had.  For example, is a stuffy nose normal during pregnancy? Why do my gums bleed when I brush my teeth? Is this out of breath feeling I have normal?  Before I’d pick up the phone to call the doctor, I’d first check to see if this book covered my issue.  There were several occasions when the concern I had was serious and I did call my doctor to get proper care for my unborn child.  In one of those cases, I probably never would have thought that my symptoms were unusual if I hadn’t read the book first.

The book also has numerous illustrations which show you how your unborn child is growing in the womb.  This helps but the whole experience in perspective!  The authors of the book have also started an online community where expectant moms can share and get information.  Be sure to check this out!

I would strongly recommend this book to any mother, especially first time mothers.  If you are expecting, or know someone who is, this book would be the perfect gift!
