Because I have children with various learning challenges, I’ve sought out and considered various educational options. My children have attended public school, been homeschooled, and they have attended a virtual (or online) charter school.
Marcia (not her real name) was having serious issues with her son who refused to go to school. Some days, he refused to go. Other days, he’d walk to the bus stop and just disappear. Homeschooling is an incredibly popular alternative to public schooling. Almost 2 million children were homeschooled in 2007 in the United States alone. It’s easy to become overwhelmed when researching homeschooling options simply because there is so much information out there about the concept. Twenty years ago, when the movement began in the United States, homeschooling was much more difficult.
